Normally I avoid social media, especially Instagram, for fitness related information and inspiration. Don't get me wrong, I know there is a lot of credible information on IG, but oftentimes the most popular content is not accurate or authentic.
The explore page is filled with gym squads that go under the knife to obtain their curvy figure, then loosely attribute their body achievements to living an active lifestyle. This just creates unrealistic expectations and subpar workout guidance for women who are really looking for results. But then, during a random lurking session I stumbled upon TrainWithMarissa's IG page. For the first time, I felt like I found my real life fitness goals.
I was in total awe with Marissa's physique! She holds a curvy silhouette but with serious definition and strength that is still very feminine. Marissa is truly the root to my now openness to weight training and was the sole inspiration for my gainz goals this season. From just observation, you can tell Marissa's body is all natural. Once 30lbs overweight, Marissa decided to change her lifestyle to one focused on working out, eating well, and most importantly, doing it the old-fashion hard and natural way.
Based in my hometown Chicago, Marissa is a personal trainer who hosts a boot camp twice a week. The rest of her time I'm sure she allocates to personal goals which includes intense weight training and cardio. I can't wait to check her out the next time I am in town, but if you live nearby you can find more information about her classes on Facebook.
Thank you Marissa for dispelling the fear of weight training in me, being an inspiration for girls and women around the world, and also making a tangible impact on black women in Chicago.
