This summer, I saw baby coyotes trot across a burnt orange dusty path. I stumbled into a mini igloo and swiped my hands against an icy freshwater ceiling. I saw shapes of bears and hearts in canyons designed by water alone. And even sat on the edge of a cliff shouting in joy while raising my hands to catch the wind. This summer, I stomped through mud, dirt, rock, and snow. I hiked 5,000 feet above the ground just to meet a mountain at eye level. I ran out of breathe with seven friends, paused in exhaustion, confronted defeat, then bounced back seven times stronger. This summer, I bathed my feet at the top of rushing waterfalls then tiptoed into a shimmering, aqua-green lake that spread calmly at the bottom. Nearly done with the first month of the New Year, and many of us are already going hard for our 2017 goals. We are eating well, exercising, working towards ambitious goals like completing our first marathon, or even smaller steps like cutting red meat. We are optimistic and looking forward to who we can become with just a little patience and diligence.
